Adventures in Parodyverse - Transportation Part 1

Vicky Cameron wasn't happy at all. She was hoping to go home and change before returning to the office but she never got the chance. Comissioner Graham called Jack Burns as he was driving and asked the two of them to come in right away. She was still wearing the red and yellow cheerleading uniform she left the high school with.

"You're enjoying this, aren't you?" Vicky asked Jack. "That I don't have time to change first." She could already imagine the comments at the office.

"I kind of am," Jack mocked her.

"I could always ruin it for you," Vicky suggested.

"Oh? How's that?" Jack asked as he pulled into the police station garage.

Vicky smiled mischievously and folded her arms. "Y'know, the cheerleading uniform might look like a dress but it's more like wearing a skirt over shorts and a sweater."

Jack frowned for a moment, and then shrugged. "It's still very flattering on you, though. You usually dress so casual. You look attractive in that."

She meant to make another sarcastic comment, but then she realized Jack was trying to complement her. "Thanks," she finally said with a slight smile. "I'm just...not comfortable. That's why I'm so defensive about this. I feel like a dork."

"I know." Jack glanced at her for a moment and smiled. "That's why I didn't let the defensiveness bother me."

As they pulled into the garage Jack could see Vicky tense at the thought of walking through that room full of rude police officers on the way to her office.

"You know," Jack said, "back when I started working in the field--"

"You had to dodge hungry dinosaurs?" Vicky offered.

Jack couldn't help but laugh at her interruption. But then he continued. "I would often find myself in situations where I got wet, or soaked."

    "You wouldn't!" Vicky warned.

"Follow me," he said, ignoring Vicky's warning. He walked around to the trunk and opened it. And then he waited as Vicky gingerly slinked around the car, wary of some practical joke that would never come.

She calmed down when she looked inside the trunk. It was a beige trench coat. "I couldn't take that, Jack. Besides, I'm much too short."

"It's okay if I make fun of you," Jack told her, "But I don't want to hear it from the guys in the station."

Vicky waved away the offer. "Nah, it's okay, really. I'm used to it, and I still have my dignity. Besides, I can always shoot them down."

Jack leaned back and looked down. "Well, you do have nice legs, it'd be a shame to cover them."

She frowned at him and snatched the coat from his hands. "You just have to make this harder don't you?" She shut her eyes out of frustration when she realized what she just said.

"I'm not going to answer that," Jack said, laughing as he walked ahead of her.

"Shut up. Just shut up." Vicky wrapped herself in Jack's coat and turned away from him as she entered the elevator after him.

As the elevator started moving, Vicky seemed lost in thought. She looked at Jack again, and she wasn't frowning, but she wasn't smiling either.

---

"I don't think the coat worked," Vicky commented as she entered her office and tossed the backpack she was using at the school on her desk. "I could hear them snickering."

"They do that anyway," Jack pointed out.

"Yah, I know. I don't care so much about that." She hung the coat on a hook behind her desk - she didn't want to wear it for long, it smelled like old fabric. She dug through her backpack then and produced the clothing she was wearing earlier. As she did she narrowed her eyes and looked at Jack. "I'm wondering about you."

"What about me?" Jack asked. "And I'll make a restroom stop if you want to change in here."

"Nah, I'll just change under the desk, I'm small enough." Vicky shrugged. "You've become kinda...different since you saw me in this."

"I told you I always liked cheerleaders," Jack noted.

Vicky folded her arms. "Yah, but that's not very specific. You mean you like cheerleaders or you own porn videos with cheerleaders, or what?"

"I don't own porn videos," Jack protested. "But if you must know--" He paused for a moment, thinking of a diplomatic way to finish that sentence. "Let's just say Dee has a similar outfit." Jack picked up a newspaper on his desk and started reading it, trying to end the topic.

"No way!" Vicky stood with her mouth open, staring at Jack. "You're kidding me!" She cleared her throat gently and tried to become serious. "Umm...sorry, I guess. I'll go under the desk and change now." She quickly retreated under the desk.

Just then, there was a knock at the door, and it opened slowly. "Is Vicky in here?" a male voice asked.

    "No, she's out," Jack lied.

"Oh," he said. "I saw her come in and...she was pretty. I wanted to ask her out."

Jack impatiently replied, "I'll pass that along," and went back to his newspaper. The door closed as the unknown man left frustrated.

Vicky slid out from under her desk looking annoyed. She didn't have a chance to change yet because of the interruption, but now her hair was messed up a bit and she wasn't wearing shoes. "I feel like I'm back in that school, every guy in here wanting sex."

Jack simply laughed and kept reading his paper. He finally spoke up. "The Daily Trombone profiled Visionary again."

"They're obsessed with him and Goldeneyed." Vicky waved dismissively. She nearly dove under the desk again but there was yet another knock at the door.

"It says he has a thing for alien women and cheerleaders." Jack laughed as he read it, but then his smile disappeared as two people walked into the office.

"Cheerleaders?" a man in a yellow coat asked as he entered the office with Commissioner Graham behind him. He began staring at Vicky.

"This is Visionary," Commissioner Graham announced. "He has a little problem for us to deal with. I'm handing him off to you because you two are the best."

"So what do you need help with?" Jack asked Visionary.

"Huh?" Visionary suddenly snapped back to reality and looked at Jack. "Oh, right. Um...Chiaki sent me, she said you could help me track someone down. She seems to have a lot of pretty good contacts so I thought I'd try it."

"Who do you need tracked down?" Vicky asked as she walked around to the front of her desk and sat on it.

"Um...I probably shouldn't say right here." Visionary rubbed his neck nervously as he looked at Vicky. "Is it hot in here? Maybe I should take the coat off."

"Jack, your suspect's back, a Mr. Wright." Commisioner Graham burst in with. "He was just brought in and he's trying to cut another deal."

"Figures," Jack grumbled. He looked at Vicky. "Why don't you help Visionary with his problem and I'll take care of Mr. Wright."

"'Kay," Vicky agreed. She turned her attention to Vicky. "You want to go for some coffee?"

"Like a date?" Visionary asked, nearly knocking over the mug on Jack's desk.

Vicky rolled her eyes. "Yah, except it's pretty much guaranteed you won't get laid. C'mon, let's go."

This time Visionary actually did knock over Jack's mug as he followed Vicky out of the office.
